
In 2009, MOCA Jacksonville became a cultural institute of the University of North Florida, enhancing its commitment to providing the highest quality arts educational opportunities, which now include special lectures, college-level art courses, and special faculty and student exhibitions. While it attracts visitors from all over the Southeast, MOCA Jacksonville is an important community partner in Northeast Florida. In the past three years, the Museum has produced more than thirty exhibitions.

MOCA Jacksonville originates more than ninety five percent of its exhibitions and accompanying publications. One of the Southeast’s largest contemporary art institutions, MOCA Jacksonville serves the community and its visitors through innovative exhibitions, notable collections, award-winning educational programs, and compelling publications designed to enhance an understanding and appreciation of modern and contemporary art, with a particular emphasis on works created from 1960 to the present.

MOCA Jacksonville’s UNF Student Artist-in-Residence program is a highly competitive opportunity that awards access to a MOCA Jacksonville studio and exhibition space to complete a new body of work and hone skills over the course of a final semester. By taking elements seen in our daily lives and placing them into a place of observance and analysis, I hope to introduce questions about our surroundings and what can be labeled ‘art.’ This can be a concrete wall, a cinderblock, curb markings, debris, and other artifacts of modern living and human intervention,” says Wojtyla. “My work has a base in industrial processes and contemporary urban living. With Cathedral of Labor, Wojtyla presents an exhibition grounded on his transdisciplinary exploration of the utilitarian form and processes, that elevates everyday found forms and actions of the contemporary urban environment into the context of a fine arts setting in order to question the very definition of art. He graduated in 2022, earning a Bachelor of Fine Art with a concentration in graphic design. Wojtyla is a multi-disciplinary artist and a recent UNF alum. in conjunction with downtown Jacksonville’s First Wednesday Art Walk and Museum Nights MOCA.
